Like Mike

Curated by Geoff Newton

1 - 22 June 2013

Like Mike is a celebration that will take place across five galleries in Melbourne, each venue loosely reflecting an artistic period of Brown’s oeuvre, operating parallel to an exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art.

Galleries include Linden Centre For Contemporary Art, Charles Nodrum gallery, Neon Parc, Sarah Scout Presents and Utopian Slumps.

This exhibition pays homage to Mike Brown, his energy and restlessness, his use of materials and his intuitive processes.

From periods of pornographic collage, political satire and commentary, Mike Brown challenged art audiences with his anything goes approach to art making and exhibition.

The artists selected for this exhibition have in some way been influenced by Mike or are working in a similar mode. In the exhibition at Utopian Slumps these artists are Vivienne Binns, Mike Brown, Eugene Carchesio, Starlie Geikie, Julia Gorman, Nathan Gray, John Nixon, Bryan Spier and Trevor Vickers.
